ootball-loving youngsters spent a sunny day learning from Monmouth Town FC coaches and first team players last week.

Twenty-one children aged seven to 11 honed their skills with first team manager Barry Burns and players Dan Spence and Andrew Smith.

"We've had them doing lots of football skills, lots of tournaments and seven-sided games," said Barry.

"The emphasis is on fun and enjoyment."

There are two more courses, which last from 10am to 3pm, running this summer on Thursday 11th and Wednesday 24th August.

The course is £10 for football club members, £15 for non-members. Monmouthshire Housing Association is subsidising the cost for its tenants, making it just £2 a day.

Members and non-members are welcome to turn up on the day.

"We like to get players from the first team down for these days, it gives the kids some motivation and inspiration, and they get good coaching," added Barry.

"We also give prizes out at the end of the day to the most improved player, whoever has trained the hardest etc."
