After five years of successful funding, the Local Network Fund finally ended its five year lifetime with an event to celebrate the project In total over £1.25 million was awarded to over 260 voluntary groups working with children and young people in Herefordshire and in excess of 12,000 youngsters benefited in some way through at least one of the projects. Many of these projects were based in and around Ross, with children as young as two through to teenagers up to 19 benefiting from the grants. It was appropriate that General Sir Peter De La Billiere opened the event because he actually presented the first grant award five years ago and has followed the progress of this scheme with interest throughout its life. Over 70 people attended the celebration, which included presentations from some of the more innovative projects and demonstrations from some of the more energetic. The project was delivered jointly by Herefordshire Voluntary Action and Herefordshire Community Foundation.
