STAFF at a Monmouth doctor’s surgery have been making the most of the seasonal good will by raising funds for charity.
The festively decorated dispensary at Castle Gate Medical Practice has been continuing its fundraising for the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board’s new breast care units as well as a bereavement support charity.
A bake sale organised by Jo Saunders has raised £402 for 2 Wish Upon a Star - a charity which provides bereavement support for families who have suddenly and traumatically lost a child or young adult.
Fundraising efforts for the new breast care units are showing no signs of slowing down. Money raised from their ’dress silly for Santa’ day as well as a book sale will be contributing to the campaign. The book sale will be continuing until Christmas.
Steph Barclay who has been organising fundraising for the breast care units said: "I just want to give a massive thank you to everyone who donated and everyone who helped."
Last October the Beacon reported that a previous bake sale had raised over £400.
The current breast care units in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board are not fit for purpose despite being the busiest in Wales, seeing over 5,000 patients a year with around 500 cancers being diagnosed each year. The efforts of the Castle Gate staff are all part of the wider campaign to raise a total of £200,000 towards the unit.
