Wye Valley Music’s next concert on Sunday, November 15th at 3pm in St. Briavels Church, sees the welcome return of The Odysseus Piano Trio: Rosie Biss – cello, Sarah Trickey – violin, Domonkos Csabay - piano.
Formed in 2015, the Trio is one of today’s most dynamic and distinctive ensembles. They have performed at Kings Place and St David’s Hall as well as festivals and concert societies across the UK.
Outstanding cellist Rosie Biss is well known to local audiences, having grown up in sight of St Briavels Church. In addition to her role as Principal Cello of Welsh National Opera, Rosie has a busy and varied career as chamber musician, soloist, guest principal, and teacher.
Sarah Trickey enjoys an exciting and diverse career as a solo violinist and chamber musician. Noted for her “fiery and passionate” performances (The Strad) and her “beautifully refined tone” (Musical Opinion), she performs at many of the major UK venues and plays regularly at the Wye Valley Chamber Music Winter Festival.
Domonkos Csabay is a prize-winning Hungarian concert pianist, chamber musician and accompanist. His performances have been recorded on CD and broadcast on BBC Radio 3, and he recently finished his fellowship as a collaborative pianist at the Royal College of Music, London.
In this concert the Odysseus will play trios by Haydn, an early work by Shostakovich and Schubert’s beautiful Piano Trio No. 1 in B-flat major, D. 898, written in 1827 and completed in the last year of his life. Robert Schumann said of it: “One glance at Schubert's Trio and the troubles of our human existence disappear and all the world is fresh and bright again.”
This is certainly the music the world needs at the present time, and we look forward to what promises to be a memorable performance of one of the greatest compositions for piano trio.
