Wye Valley Music’s next concert at the Bridges Centre, Monmouth, on Sunday, May 25th at 3pm is undoubtedly one of the highlights of their 2025 season. Violinist Bojan Čičić and the Illyria Consort will perform a programme of 17 and 18c music entitled “Melancoly and Madness.
Croatian-born violinist, Bojan, first played for Wye Valley Music over a decade ago as a member of Brecon Baroque. He is now one of the leading names on the early music scene, as both a soloist and music director of the Academy of Ancient Music. He is Professor of baroque violin at the Royal College of Music and is passionate about training the next generation of instrumentalists in historically informed performing styles.
For this concert, Bojan has put together a sparkling programme including works by Italian composers Corelli, Tartini and Veracini – and has brought together a team of renowned early music specialists in his Illyria Consort:
Steven Devine, (harpsichord), is Principal Keyboard Player with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and performs regularly with the Academy of Ancient Music.
Linda Sayce, (theorbo and baroque guitar) is an eminent musicologist and performer who has made more than 100 recordings and has a catalogue of publications uncovering and exploring the world of early music.
Susanne Heinrich, (viola da gamba) is one of the leading viol players of her generation, Susanne has performed and recorded with many of the leading period-instrument ensembles of Europe, and for many years toured worldwide with the Palladian Ensemble.
