Although the weather was not as good as in previous years, that did not deter visitors to Monmouth Open Gardens on May 17th and overall the six gardens welcomed nearly 400 visitors. They made £3,980 for the National Garden Scheme charities which include Mary Curie and Macmillan Nurses. The homemade teas were particularly popular this year, raising the impressive total of £1,700 for Monmouth’s Savoy Theatre. Plant sales at the Nelson Garden brought in £386 for their own charity which supports the upkeep of that historic garden.
Heartfelt thanks go to the intrepid visitors, to the volunteers and members of Monmouth U3A who served homemade teas and ran the Welcome stall throughout the day and of course to the garden owners.
