Once again, the hillside village of Penallt, near Monmouth is hosting a major art fair over the August Bank Holiday weekend (August 27th – 29th).

Having had a very successful 2021 the Art in Penallt team is now well under way in organising its annual art exhibition of high quality, contemporary artwork, and artefacts.

It’s an exciting time. Artists and makers, some new to the fair, are really excited about bringing a host of new material to the market and competition for indoor and outdoor exhibition and demonstration space is high.

The venue this year is at Humble by Nature on the edge of Penallt village.

Here, Kate Humble and Ludo Graham have established a thriving rural skills centre on a working farm with excellent facilities including better carparking for events such as this.

At the heart of the Humble by Nature site is a beautiful, old barn which will house the fine art exhibition while a range of stalls and demonstrations by artists and makers will be found around other buildings on the site

The organising team are all local volunteers who have, since 2010, developed a close association with many local artists and makers as well as with three local schools, and Made in Monmouthshire.

Their purpose is to stimulate interest and enthusiasm amongst all age groups in the artistic process of creating a broad range of art and craft forms and to sell a wide variety of high-quality artwork with any profit donated to charity.

The charities supported are Bridges, Monmouth Food Bank and St John’s Ambulance.

Organisers are always looking for volunteers to steward the event with or without an arts background. and anyone interested should get in touch.

Artists, makers, and visitors from far afield now recognise Art in Penallt which for each of the past 12 years (except 2020) attracts new exhibitors and demonstrators as well as established favourites like our patrons, the potter Walter Keeler and the artist Richard Wills.

Selecting exhibitors from many applicants is never an easy task and to ensure that the show brings in exciting new artists, exhibitors are not normally selected for more than two consecutive years.
