Residents of Oak Crescent, Wyesham, were awoken with a bang last Thursday (26th August), when the tree placed at the centre of the crescent fell down.
At around 7.40am, a loud cracking resounded around the crescent as an entire half of the tree came crashing to the ground, hitting a car which had been laying in its path.
Residents gathered at the scene to witness years of memories come to an end, with some residents having lived in the crescent for over 40 years.
"I used to climb that tree when I was a child," said Lorraine Northey.
"It's really very sad, and I could tell you so many stories from my childhood that contain the tree.
"There was even a church service held under it once."
John James, who has also lived in the area for years said: "I used to play in that tree for hours on end as a child.
"I'm very sad to see it go."
Richard Grindle said: "I have lived here since 1961 and can remember playing football and cricket under the tree."
Council Highways were at the scene by 8am, and remained there for the rest of the day, freeing the car and clearing up the debris.
