A MONMOUTH

couple celebrated 60 years of marriage last month.

Tom and Dawn Fryer began a relationship after striking up a conversation at the Kings Head pub. This chance meeting sparked a lifetime of happiness and a solid relationship that would reach its diamond milestone.

Tom said he knew after that initial conversation he would marry Dawn.

After a year of courting the happy couple tied the knot, Dawn aged 18. Over the 60 years Tom and Dawn have welcomed a son and two grandchildren.

Dawn said the secret of a good marriage was compromise: "We moved around south Wales a lot and so had to get along because it was just the two of us.

"It was important to compromise, we had to rub along together."

Dawn and Tom finally settled in Monmouth in 1971 and now enjoy retirement together.

The couple marked their anniversary with a family party and will celebrate later in the year with a special holiday.

Dawn and Tom also received a telegram from the Queen congratulating them on their special anniversary.
