A MUCH-LOVED Raglan church is to share in a £607,000 funding payout from the National Churches Trust.

St Cadoc's church is in much need of a new roof, and fundraisers are working hard to meet the £400,000 price tag.

The latest boost of £20,000 from the National Churches Trust aims to ensure the 14th century church gets the work it needs.

Broadcaster and journalist Huw Edwards, Vice President of The National Churches Trust, said:

"The UK's churches and chapels are a treasure trove of architecture, history and faith. But these buildings don't belong to the past.  They play a vital role in our present and future too, acting as places of worship, community centres or simply somewhere to go for quiet contemplation."

"The cost of keeping churches and chapels wind and watertight and paying for the installation of modern facilities is far beyond the means of congregations."

"That's why I'm delighted that the National Churches Trust has been able to provide  a £20,000 grant to St Cadoc Church in Raglan.

"This funding will help ensure that this historic and much loved church will continue to serve local people for many years to come."

Community fundraisers in Raglan have so far raised £21,930, which was further increased by £460 from their Ceilidh and hog roast evening on Saturday 27th June, pictured right.

The next event is a treasure hunt on 2nd August, a quiz night on 19th September and a promise auction on 24th October. If you would like information or to purchase tickets for any of these events, contact Beverley on 01291 691991.

Rev Tim Clement, Vicar of St Cadoc's Church Raglan said: "We are delighted that the National Churches Trust has given us this support. This is really encouraging and will help us on our way. The church here in Raglan is the focal point of the village and forms an integral part of the community.  It is great to know that we are a step closer to preserving St Cadoc's for future generations as an active  place of worship and a resource for use by the whole community"
