SIR,
I have noticed that someone in the county council has decided to put a cycle path straight through Drybridge Park and has severed the roots of several mature and very historic trees.
As far as I am aware, this cycle path did not have planning permission and due to the way in which the work has been done, I would imagine the tree officer was not consulted at all.
I can not understand why this was allowed to happen, did the owners of Drybridge Park give permission for this?
Our town is being wrecked by poor decisions from our county council, who seem to be ignoring their own rules which we have to follow.
I am not against cycle paths or development but I do think that there are members of the county council who think they can do as the please without following their own procedures. We have tree officers and biodiversity officers so why don't other council officials consult them? Perhaps it's because they will say no.
Drybridge Park is a very important historical site which needs to be protected from further damage. It's not mindless thugs who have done the damage this time, its our county council again.
