Bogus caller

MONMOUTH Police are warning about bogus callers after someone pretending to be from the local Council called at a home in Somerset Road, Monmouth.

The homeowner spoke to the caller via an intercom and asked to check his identification. The man then left.

Police say that if anyone is due to call from the Council, the authority will usually notify the householder first. Always check the identity of a caller and if in doubt do not let him or her in.

Three arrested

THREE people were arrested after break-ins in The Narth and Lydart areas last week.

Two bikes were taken from a farm at The Narth and later recovered. On the same evening there was a burglary at a property in Lydart.

Police are asking a local driver who may have given three people a lift into town in his Land Rover on the night of February 27th to contact DC Martyn Edwards at Monmouth Police Station. Stolen property may be concealed on his premises.

Three people were arrested in the Herefordshire area and inquiries are continuing.

Men disturbed

A NEIGHBOUR disturbed two men who were trying to break into empty premises at Dingestow last week.

The men were driving a white Ford pick-up registratio number G791 HKG which was later found abandoned in Gloucestershire. Anyone who saw anything suspicious is asked to contact Monmouth Police on 01600 712321.

Car park incident

TWO men were seen trying locks of vehicles parked in the Glendower Street car park in Monmouth last week. No vehicles were entered, but anyone who saw anything suspicious is asked to contact Monmouth Police on 01600 712321.

Tools taken

A VAN was entered at the Riverside Caravan Park at Mayhill and tools taken last week.

Tools stolen

TOOLS valued at around £1,000 were stolen during a break-in at a farm at Wonastow, near Monmouth, last week.

Hotels raided

TWO local hotels were targetted by criminals at the weekend.

A flat at the Beaufort Arms in Raglan was broken into and three coloured men were seen getting into a white new model car, possibly a Vauxhall Astra. One of the men was described as dark-skinned, aged about 25 and thin faced.

Some time later the three went to the Riverside Hotel in Monmouth and asked about booking rooms. While the manager was occupied they got into the office and took a till.

Homes burgled

TWO homes in the Raglan area were burgled at the weekend.

Thieves broke into homes at Wilcae Terrace and Caestory Crescent. Anyone who saw anything is asked to contact Monmouth Police.

Door taken

A DOORand frame were taken from the building site at Watery Lane, Monmouth, on Sunday night.

Handbag stolen

A HANDBAG was stolen from a member of staff at a shop in Church Street, Monmouth, on Monday morning.

Jewellery found

A QUANTITY of costume jewellery was found at the rear of the Granada Servies in Raglan. Anyone who has lost similar items is asked to contact Monmouth Police.
