The traditional Christmas Day mayoral visits began at Monmouth Police Station when the mace bearers, John Blake and Mike Brown accompanied Mayor Gerry Bright and his wife Olive in paying a visit to those working that day.

Sgt Dick Bull was the first to greet the special visitors, who went on to Gibraltar House, Parade House and Abbeyfield House before ending up at Monnow Vale Hospital.

With Monmouthshire Beacon photographer Desmond Pugh recording the day, the visitors were warmly welcomed and joined some of the residents and their families enjoying a festive glass of mulled wine.
