A Monmouth-based charity is buzzing about a new partnership which is set to develop beekeeping skills in one of the poorest parts of Ethiopia.

Bees for Development, from its home in Agincourt Street, promotes beekeeping as a way of alleviating poverty in many of the world's poorest countries.

Last Friday (8th June), the charity signed a deal with Trade Advance Ltd to establish an Apiculture Centre of Excellence (ACE), the first of its kind, in the Ethiopian state of Amhara.

Getting the centre up and running will be the first step towards increasing the income and enhancing the skills of beekeepers in Amhara state, an area in which 203,000 households keep bees.
