SUPERFAST broadband for Monmouthshire has received a £73,200 boost.

The money is to be taken from ICT reserves at MCC to maximise the benefits of Superfast Cymru for businesses and families across the county.

Monmouthshire County Council's (MCC) cabinet met last Wednesday (18th March) to rubberstamp the plans.

Councillor Giles Howard supported the move, he said: "There are parts of my ward where coverage is so slow that it's like trying to wade through treacle with snow shoes on, so I support the report but I'm a bit concerned that progress is patchy and I want to ensure we have a level playing field that's established in addition to improving those areas that are pretty excellent in comparison."

Councillor Phil Hobson went one step further and said he would like to see 4G implemented for all homes across Monmouthshire. He said: "Mobile is probably going to be the future of wireless, there is always going to be a problem with fixed line technology.

"I'd like to see a commitment to 4G for all homes in Monmouthshire and that's got to be a priority next time round."

Towns and villages in Monmouthshire will benefit from the rollout of superfast broadband in the coming months.
