A fantastic evening of festive cheer at a packed Royal Oak in Monmouth has raised an impressive £553, which will be shared between the charities LATCH and the Monmouth Food Bank.

The event was organised by Cllr Jane Lucas, County Councillor for Osbaston, who offered a huge thank you to over 70 local residents who attended. The lively and warm-hearted evening marked the start of the Christmas season for many, with a wonderful turnout and enthusiastic singing.

This year marked the third annual Carol Singing at The Royal Oak, and plans are already in motion to make next year’s event even bigger. The date for 2026 is confirmed as Wednesday 2nd December, the first Wednesday of the month, and everyone is encouraged to save the date.

Special thanks go to the members Monmouth and Risca Male Choirs for lending their exceptional voices, to Tony and The Celtic Collections for their invaluable musical support, and, of course, to Doug and Jude Landlords of The Royal Oak for hosting the event once again as well as providing lite refreshments.

For those who couldn’t join this time—don’t worry. There’s always next year, and all are welcome, whether you plan to sing or simply enjoy the festive atmosphere.

There is also interest in reviving traditional door-to-door carol singing around local streets, potentially in aid of recent flood-relief efforts. Anyone keen to take part is invited to get in touch. “I’m up for it,” said Cllr Lucas. “And perhaps those who couldn’t make last night might like to join too.”
