The following letter was sent to Monmouth's town clerk, and has also been forwarded to the Beacon office.
SIR,
It is extremely important that Monmouth has effective CCTV, which with the new technology and effective co-operation in place, has been proven in other Monmouthshire towns.
A petition signed by 1,037 residents of the town in support of CCTV, was handed to the Town Council a year ago, on 3rd April 2009. The Town Council's response to this has been totally inadequate – indeed some would say obstructive.
With the recent spate of burglaries and vandalism, the logic for the reinstatement of CCTV is irrefutable. All other towns in the CCTV partnership are very happy with their latest technology – CCTV static and mobile cameras.
Come on, Monmouth Town Council! If you carry on like this, when the Ryder Cup takes place nearby, in only six months from now, the town will be most notable for its run-down appearance, indications of lawlessness, and it will be a laughing stock with an international audience.
