Bridges Community Centre's fundraising champion, Lisa Bailey rose magnificently to the challenge of completing the London Marathon last month.
This was the first full marathon that Lisa had attempted, having completed the Cardiff Half Marathon on behalf of Bridges in October 2014. She found the first 14 miles wonderful, the atmosphere was electric and she was carried forward by the enthusiasm of the crowd.
Unfortunately, however, she twisted her knee on a traffic bump after 18 miles and had to walk the remaining eight miles to complete the 26 mile marathon. Lisa would like to thank everyone who sponsored and supported her and particularly Carol Fisher, who encouraged and treated her throughout her training programme.
Nearly £3,000 has been raised for Bridges to continue to improve facilities for all its users, from babies to senior citizens.
Centre Director, Mark Walton, commented: "This was a magnificent achievement by Lisa.
"I know how hard and long she has trained for this event, sacrificing family and social life. It was typical and very brave of her to be determined to complete the course, despite her painful injury. Lisa has become a great supporter and friend of Bridges and we are very proud of all that she has done for us."
