SIR,

I would like to respond to the comments made by Mr Innes regarding the potential 'Booze Ban'.

As a resident of Howells Place I would support the ban in particular areas of the town, Chippenham Mead included. We have had two cars vandalised, been awoken by rowdy anti-social behaviour in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday mornings during the summer months and endured the smashed glass and litter that surrounds the park area following a night of such behaviour.

I would question imposing a blanket ban as I do not believe every area of Monmouth suffers the same behaviour. I would agree that the main high street is relatively trouble free in the early hours but this is only because the under-age drinking population are congregating in less conspicuous areas.

I would also question how the ban will policed and imposed. Having been a victim of such anti-social behaviour and having had first hand experience of trying to get any police presence to the area in question.

I do wonder who will be policing this and what powers they will have to make a difference. The introduction of CCTV cameras to these problem areas is long overdue.
