SOME of the county’s most impressive talent has been celebrated this week, after art fans were treated to an eclectic range of local pieces.
Art in Penallt is an annual festival that takes place just outside Monmouth, in the converted Capel Pentwyn. With a range of artwork from painting to sculpture, visitors experienced everything from stunning local art to exhibitions celebrating the work of talented local students.
After a drinks reception on the opening night showcasing the local exhibition, students from Monmouth’s secondary schools exhibited their latest and best work, with a difference.
All artwork in the ‘peg-it-up’ exhibition was for sale, with the only rule being a £5 minimum fee. Money from the exhibition was split between the artists and the Attik, the Monmouth youth centre.
As well as showcasing some of the county’s finest art, visitors were also treated to a range of workshops, with courses on print-making, watercolours and pastels.
Proceeds from the event have gone to local charities and to ensure that this event is sustained in future years.
