THE Monmouthshire Show, held last

Thursday (27th August), was another great success.

The unsettled weather did not dampen the spirits of the visitors to the show, with outbreaks of sunshine helping to brighten up the day.

Show Secretary Liz Egerton said: “Attendance was down on last year, but the going underfoot wasn’t too muddy. Trade stands were happy in the number of visitors”.

The livestock and horse rings were full to the brim, with competitors from as far away as Cornwall and Scotland.

Liz continued: “The show is always popular with the horse competitors, as it is the last but one show this year to have several Horse of the Year Show qualifying classes with the finals taking at the NEC in Birmingham in October.

“The grand parade of the county’s finest livestock is always a highlight, and the main ring attraction of Kangaroo Kid on his quadbike performing stunts, was exciting to watch.

“The showjumping and scurry racing, followed by the Monmouthshire Hunt hound parade, was finished off with the local hunts competing against each other, with Llangeinor just beating the Monmouthshire.

“In the Countryside Matters area, there were sheep shearing demonstrations, gun dogs working, family fun races, and a dog show.

“The poultry tent was full of wonderful plumes of exotic hens. The display of vintage vehicles was also great to see. In the homecraft and horticulture tents there were wonderful flower arrangements, baking and produce.

“It’s without doubt a popular event in the calendar for Monmouth, and we will try to make it even better next year.

“Don’t forget next year’s date is Thursday August 25th, 2016. The show committee are already on planning it!”
