SIR,
I read the letter in last week's Beacon about the industrial unit being proposed on Ancre Hill.
Has the world gone mad?
That area is a beautiful, peaceful place which is part of what attracts many tourists to Monmouth.
The country walk along there is lovely; the vineyard looks nice.
So why spoil it by putting a bottling plant and open natural effluent/ sewer next to the lane/ footpath?
If we start building in these beautiful areas Monmouth will lose all of its individuality.
People will move on to visit towns and villages that have kept the blend of natural countryside and historic attractions.
Monmouth does not have a lot going for it unlike Abergavenny lets say, with its festivals and many fantastic markets, nestled under the green hills and rolling farmland.
This is not about pulling in visitors into the town, but pulling in trade/ profit for the vineyard.
And rightly so from their business point of view – more money spent there means less spent in the businesses within the town itself.
I agree that there are enough industrial units available for rent to use instead of blotting the edge of town.
