MONMOUTH Druids took a strong squad of players to Abersychan for this league fixture as they sought to continue their winning start. The heavier home pack, playing down the slight slope, made a real impact and Druids were forced to back pedal. It seemed inevitable that Abersychan would score and they did so, thanks to a second row player forcing his way over for an unconverted try. Druids inability to win quick ball prevented them from scoring but they finally took the lead when a ; surging run from Dion Hurinui ended with outside half Gregg Wilding taking the pass, to score near the posts. The try was converted. Playing down the slope in the second half, the Druids managed to stabilise their scrum and as a result their backs looked far more dangerous. Winning good, clean possession from a maul enabled Greg Wilding to scythe through the home defence for an unconverted try, which gave Druids a 12pts - 7 lead. Druids now had the upper hand and Hurinui broke through the defence for another try, which was again converted. Abersychan were not done and they scored a try, which went unconverted. Almost immediately, the Druids got another try through wing Mattie Morgan. The game ended with Druids winners by 21 points to ten. Outstanding was Hurinui, while veteran Andy Tansill was everywhere, particularly in defence.
