The family of the man killed on the A40 between Ganarew and Monmouth in August 2022 have spoken of their “pain” following the trial last month, which took four years to get to court, of the farmer found guilty of killing him.

The Facebook page set up in his memory - The Dr Steven Lee Foundation- shared the words of his sister, Rachel Sargeant on social media saying how hard the last few weeks have been.

“These last couple of weeks have been some of the hardest we have ever faced. Sitting through the trial and hearing every detail was heartbreaking, but the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict.

“Nothing will ever bring Steven back or take away the pain of losing him, but knowing that the person responsible has finally been held accountable brings a sense of justice that we have waited almost four years for.

“To everyone who has messaged us, your kindness has carried us through some incredibly dark moments, and we will never forget it.

“We are also so grateful to everyone involved in bringing this case to justice. Their professionalism, compassion and determination have meant so much to us.

“Steven wasn’t just my little brother—he was an incredible son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin , partner and friend. He had the biggest heart, the brightest smile, and a future that should never have been taken from him. He is loved beyond words and missed every single day.”

26 year old Lee was riding a motorbike between Ganarew and Monmouth on the A40 when he collided with a tractor and trailer at 9,45pm in August 2022.

61-year-old farmer Philip Baker of Wonastow was found guilty by a Worcester Crown Court Jury in July of this year of causing death by dangerous driving.

He will be sentenced on Sept 22.
