SIR,

On Christmas eve, my partner and I were lucky enough to join other residents of Penterry, St Arvans, at the parish's annual carol service in the beautiful St Mary's Church.

The kind organisers behind the event had created a perfect Christmas atmosphere, with candles, lovely musical accompaniment and a traditional choice of carols.

Effort had been made to light the way down to the church with lanterns, and a gift of mulled wine and mince pies after the service was an added treat.

To all those who organised the event, thank you for a wonderful start to Christmas and a memorable introduction to our new neighbourhood.

May the health of this small church continue for years to come.
