A SERIAL shoplifter has been jailed for three months after breaching his criminal behaviour order (CBO) conditions.

Ryan Price, 30, of Jordan Way, Monmouth, admitted five counts of theft from shops and two breaches of his CBO banning him from retailers when he appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, September 15.

Price, described as having “a chaotic lifestyle”, carried out the five thefts between Tuesday, August 25, and Sunday, September 13.

He breached his CBO twice by entering the Overmonnow Garage in Cinderhill Street, and Marks & Spencer in Monnow Street.

Last April, Price was jailed for eight months after admitting 13 counts of theft.

He was also issued with a two-year criminal behaviour order by Newport magistrates, which stated he must not attend or enter Monmouth’s Co-Op, Overmonnow Garage, Marks & Spencer and Iceland.

Gwent Police said at the time the order was secured by Monmouthshire neighbourhood officers working with partners after concerns from local retailers about repeated thefts from their premises.

Inspector Emma Sowrey, from the Monmouthshire neighbourhood policing team, said after his latest prison sentence: “Theft is not a victimless crime; the impact of this type of offending is hugely felt by our communities, notably businesses and retailers.

“Price’s chaotic lifestyle has led to his latest offending, and we know this jail sentence will be welcomed by businesses affected.”

The criminal behaviour order runs until April 20, 2028.

If Price breaches any conditions of his CBO, he will be committing a criminal offence and could face arrest and, if found guilty, may be fined, sentenced to imprisonment, or both.
