A Monmouth couple are due to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary at the end of this month.
Graham and Jean Probert will have been married for 60 years on Saturday 31st July.
Originally from Essex, Graham and his family moved to Monmouth in 1946.
Jean has always been a Monmouth girl, and it was her father who built the garage at Overmonnow.
The couple met at a dance in the Rolls Hall in 1947, but a very short time later Graham was posted overseas to Cyprus with the army.
They did not see each other then for almost two and a half years, until Graham returned to Britain in 1949.
They were reunited, married soon after, and they then set up home in the Wonastow Road area.
Graham took up a job as a postman, where he remained for 34 years and 10 months. Jean worked for Burley UK Ltd.
