CHEPSTOW Boxing Club member Patrick Larkin has been called up to the Welsh Youth Development Squad.
Larkin, who will be 17 later this month, lives in Pilning and travels to Chepstow to train.
Last month he won gold at an international competition held in Hull and is due to take a place in a six-month programme at the Wales Institute of Sport at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff in September.
He qualifies for Wales through his Welsh mother.
Chepstow BC head coach Steve Woods is confident another of his young boxers will be added to the development squad.
He said: “Pat Mullane wasn’t picked yet but I’ve spoken to the divisional coach Conner Gethin and he says Pat will be assessed again as he was on holiday for the last assessment.
“I’m fairly confident he too will be selected.
“I am over the moon for Patrick Larkin. Being called up to the development squad is great for him and for Chepstow Boxing Club.”
