TWO Monmouth Tri Club members excelled in their first triathlons of the season.

Daniel Beard took on the sprint distance at the Trimax First Tri in Lydney, while fellow member Ian Brain challenged himself with the Olympic.

Dan demolished the 400m swim in 10 minutes 41 seconds, the 23km bike ride in 1 hour 2 minutes and the 5km run in 36 minutes.

“I loved my first tri experience, it was such a brilliant atmosphere,” said Dan, who joined Monmouth Tri Club last year.

“A stepping stone to bigger things later in the year.”

Ian zipped through the Olympic distance in 16.59 for the 750m swim, 1.22 .18 for the 48km bike ride, and 59.34 for the 10km run.

Further west, fellow club member Jon Marsh placed an impressive 13th in the first round of the Llandow Revival cycle race.

Competitors take on six laps on the closed-road motorsport circuit in the Vale of Glamorgan, which demands strong bike handling skills from riders.

Monmouth Tri Club is a friendly group which meets for a weekly swim and cycle ride.

Members have varied sporting backgrounds and abilities, and you’ll always find support in the club.
