WITH just three days rest following last week's Trail Marathon Wales, Monross Trailblazers met again to compete in the second Herefordshire Cross Country Summer League race of the season.

Set amongst the beautiful patchwork fields at Abbey Dore, the sun was shining on Wednesday evening (24th June).

The marathon-weary Trailblazers warmed up and waited for the starter to get them underway, and the race began with a fast field crossing, then onto a road section, before gradually descending onto and around the village common.

A short climb through woodland followed and a technical descent took the runners to the 3.5 mile mark.

Following two water crossings, heavy legs had to be ignored and a significant climb through woodland ensued. The path zig-zagged up through the forest path, taking the runners up 300ft in just over half a mile.

This gained the team places on some of their rivals and a sustained effort over the final mile led to a welcome finish. This was a great effort by the team after an incredibly hard run the weekend before.

Barry Davies finished in 15th place in 39 minutes 25 seconds. Gavin Jones was close behind in 20th (40.04); Phil Thomas 25th (41.11); David Knapper 35th (42.40); Laura Lelievre 47th (5th female) in 44.02 and James Fletcher 59th (44.26).
