THE race for the East Gwent Senior League Division 2 title is hotting up after the top two teams both enjoyed five-goal victories.
Severn Bridge, currently in first place, maintained their four point advantage with a 5-1 win at Tintern Abbey B thanks to goals from Paul Trask, Chris Hooper, Craig White and Dan Cole (2), with Jack Collins replying for Abbey.
Meanwhile, second-place Underwood SC B won 5-3 at home to Caldicot Castle B with goals from Mathew Seabourne (2), Jamie Green, Jermaine Allen and Tom
Turner,
"We dominated possession throughout the 90 minutes and really we should have scored a lot more," said manager Craig Johnson.
"We weren't clinical enough in the final third but it's another three points in the bag."
David Scanlon gave Severn Tunnel B the lead at home against Caldicot Castle B with a "great goal" according to manager John Abram.
"Luke Edwards and an own goal gave us a much deserved 3-0 half time lead," he added
"An own goal and a second strike put them right back in the game and they put a sustained spell of pressure on us, but we held out to give us a probably just-deserved three points."
Finally, Portsk-ewett and Sudbrook beat Caldicot Town 3-1.
