Monmouth Tri Club member Jak Smith has demolished the competition again with a decisive win at Windermere Triathlons and Duathlons 2025 in Bowness.
Taking first place in the standard triathlon distance, Jak led out in the water by three minutes, completing the 1500m swim in 20 minutes 27 seconds, the 40km bike ride in 1 hour 34 minutes and the 10m run in 38 minutes, 50 seconds. The event kicked off at Cockshott Point, with the standard distance cycle taking athletes around Lake Windermere, while the run included the lakeside paths and trails.
Across the country, club members Matt Unsworth and James Peters competed in the Outlaw Half Holkham Weekend at Wells next the Sea, Norfolk. Spread across two days and set in the grounds of the stunning Holkham Hall in north Norfolk, the event offers various distance triathlons, plus aquabike and running options.
The Monmouth duo took on the half with a 1.2 mile swim in the estate’s lake, 56 mile bike ride through rolling countryside and past Sandringham Estate, finishing with a 13.1 mile run around Holkham Hall’s extensive grounds. Although storms were forecast, the day was dry, with light cooling rain, which was welcome on the hilly laps on the run course. James had an enjoyable race, finishing in 5 hours, 32 minutes and 18 seconds, while unfortunately Matt suffered a torn calf in the run, coming home in 5 hours, 43 minutes; both are keen to return in 2026.
The weather wasn’t so considerate when Kelly Major competed in the Upton upon Severn sprint triathlon this weekend. Although the 750m swim in the River Severn was refreshing, and the 21km bike ride breezy, the 34° heat proved relentless on the 5km run, with most competitors really slugging out the final miles; Kelly finished in 1 hour, 37 minutes.
