SUDBROOK CC's Seconds beat Lisvane Seconds by 36 runs at Mill Lane on Saturday.
After winning the toss, the visitors elected to field but were left regretting the decision as Sudbrook posted 218 for the loss of six wickets.
The home side lost their first two wickets cheaply but Matthew Spencer dug in and began the recovery, making 72 before departing.
During his time at the crease Jamie Watkins (11) and James Kinchin began – and ended – partnerships but then Scott O'Leary weighed in with 53 and Ben Supple contributed 26 valuable runs.
In reply, Lisvane lost both openers for ducks, as Robert Simmonds and Ben Supple struck and, although their next two batsmen put on 35 and 28 Simmonds claimed his second wicket and Ian Simmonds ended the resistance with his first scalp.
The next four men departed for single figure scores and Martin Norton and Scott O'Leary mopped up the tail, although there was some defiance at the end with the final pair contributing 32 and 20 respectively, Lisvane being all out for 182.
Meanwhile, at Mathern Road, Chepstow CC Seconds' skipper Huw Rogers won the toss and asked Usk Seconds to bat first.
Rogers made an early breakthrough, bowling opener Ben Jones for two runs before Owen Watkins (58) and Matthew Cook (32) steadied the ship.
But Watkins was finally trapped lbw by Justin Thornhill and David Bennett held a catch to dismiss Cook.
Lewys Jones had Alex Head caught by Rogers for 9 and Joe Peacock chipped in with 25 before being run out.
Dominic Rees also fell to a Bennett catch off Jonathan Haws' bowling when he had made a valuable 36 and Bennett caught Greg Peacock off his own bowling as Usk's innings ended on 190 all out.
Thornhill ended with 3-27 from his nine overs but Rogers was unable to lead his team to their second victory of the season.
"It was an above-par score," the skipper admitted.
"We started well with John Griffith (20) and Luke Watson (31) putting on 50 for the first wicket.
"But we were always short on batting and couldn't put partnerships together after that.
"Despite a battling 41 not out from vice captain Jonathan Haws we fell 40 runs short."
