Youngsters from Caldicot Youth RFC are set to tackle this season in style after sealing a sponsorship deal with Taylor Wimpey.

The team, who play at the club in Longfellow Road, just down the road from Taylor Wimpey's Cwrt Yr Eglwys development, will be wearing new kit this season thanks to a generous donation from the housebuilder.

Club secretary Keith Mellens said: "We're very grateful for the help that Taylor Wimpey have offered us.

"It makes a huge difference to us, as the more money we can get in sponsorship, the more we can spend on facilities and equipment for the club.

"We have had a youth policy in place for the last seven years and most of our youth players have come up through the mini and junior sections, and go on to play senior rugby – in fact 80 per cent of our senior players are ex-youth players.

"Rugby's a great way of keeping them involved within the local community."

Sara Taylor, regional sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey, said: "As a local housebuilder we are committed to supporting the local communities in which we build our new homes and our sponsorship of Caldicot's youth rugby players is a great example of how we can help local groups and organisations.

"Local rugby clubs have an important role to play in fostering community spirit and we look forward to continuing our association with the team.

"We wish them, and all the other sides representing the club, every success this season."

Chepstow Junior Netball Club has been awarded £1,000 funding by Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation to replace their outdated team kit, which had been in use for over 15 years.

Established in 1997, Chepstow Junior Netball Club caters for girls from the age of eight to 17, coaching them in netball skills and providing them with the opportunity to play competitively against teams from across south Wales.

Many of the players end up going on to become coaches or umpires, as well as following their love of the game and playing competitively while at university.

Meryl Slaymaker, treasurer of Chepstow Junior Netball Club, said: "We were thrilled to receive such a substantial donation from the foundation.

"Our old kit had begun to look tired and old fashioned compared to some of those worn by other clubs, and since we're affiliated with the Welsh Netball Association, it's important that our teams look professional during competitions and ceremonies.

"Having the new kit has inspired us ahead of the next season of competitions, and we're extremely grateful for the helping hand."

Since 2000, Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has contributed £100,000 to more than 230 local organisations and charities.

In the past financial year alone, the foundation has provided support to 29 local organisations.

Penny Reeves, chairman of Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, said: "The foundation is delighted to be able to support Chepstow Junior Netball Club, and it's great to see such a diverse group of young people come together to represent their local community.

"We are extremely pleased to have been able to help the club to provide funding for the new kit, and we're sure that their fresh, modern look will inspire them to raise their game and go from strength to strength in future competitions."
