Monmouth Town 2nds 5 Underwood 2
MONMOUTH Town 2nds defeated Underwood 5-2 in a mid-table match on Saturday, after the 1sts’ away fixture at Newport Saints was postponed.
On a sunny day at the Sports Ground, the Kingfishers took the lead in the first minute through Lamin Ndure scoring with a great strike from outside the box.
The Welsh forward broke free in attack and after his pass to David Elworthy was intercepted, quickly won it back to fire on goal, with his shot beating Chris Jackson in goal all ends up.
Ndure then broke free again on 18 minutes and made the most of Jackson’s attempt to rush out of his box and intercept, lobbing the keeper to make it 2-0.
And just three minutes later Jake Lewis made it three ,after a well executed play between him and Jake Perrella put the young striker in the perfect position to fire into the net.
Six minutes from the end of the first half, Underwood’s uphill battle became a mountain, as Wayne Duffield was shown a red card after a collision with Harry Wilson in the middle of the pitch.
The visitors started the second half with a goal immediately from the restart, though a free-kick given away by the hosts played into the box and and Callum Ford tapping home from the subsequent scramble.
Incredibly, Underwood’s 10 men added a second just seven minutes later, courtesy of Kyle Williams.
But Town reasserted themselves within three minutes for 4-2, hitting the visitors’ hopes of getting back into the game, with David Elworthy teed up by by Fin Thorp.
And a fifth from Perrella on 74 minutes effectively put the game to bed, leaving Monmouth sixth in the EG1 table.
The 1sts visit Wattsville on Saturday (March 7), while the 2nds host Undy 3rds.
