After being crowned Welsh Under 20s 400m champion, Monmouth sprinter Ryan Lee headed to Cardiff AAC on Saturday 29th June to compete in the Welsh Senior Championships.
This event was open to all senior Welsh-registered athletes and as our top two quickest runners, Dai Greene and Rhys Williams, were competing at the Diamond League meeting in Birmingham, this left the field very open.
Ryan finished second in his heat so for the final it was a full field of eight runners.
The competition was strong and Ryan found it a little harder going than he had expected, finishing in a respectable third place securing the bronze medal, still a very good achievement.
Last Saturday (6th July), Cardiff AAC were again hosts for the Welsh Schools Championships and Ryan did win the 400m sprint with another strong performance and was crowned the 400m Welsh Schools Champion for 2013.
Ryan now has a couple of weeks off as the next major meeting will be the Celtic Games in Colywn Bay on 3rd August as long as he is selected, but on his recent good form he hopes to be included in the squad.
