Monmouth sprinter Ryan Lee took part in the 'Basingstoke April Open meeting 2012' last Sunday (8th April).
This was the first time Ryan had ever took part in a meeting in southern England so it was a whole new experience competing with some of the best athletes in that area.
Ryan was running in the 200m and he won his heat in a time of 23.02 seconds, there were three heats then the final.
In the final, Ryan lined up with the Southern England Champion, who won the race as was to be expected but Ryan came a close second, which surprised the rest of the field and many of the spectators.
This gave Ryan a personal best of 22.73 seconds.
Ryan's next meeting is the 2012 Sainsbury's School games in May, which are being held at the Olympic Village in London.
Here Ryan will yet again be up against the Southern England champion plus all of the rest of the top Under 17 athletes in the UK.
This is a huge achievement for Ryan, especially in this Olympic year when only a few weeks later all of the world's best athletes will be running on the same track.
