Chepstow Town continued their preparations for the upcoming 2022/23 season with a pre-season friendly 1-1 draw on a warm Saturday afternoon at Westfields in Hereford.

The match came just days after the Jockeys were awarded the Nationwide Building Society FAW Fair Play Ardal South East Award for the 21/22 season.

A club spokesperson said: “This is a great achievement for the club, as we pride ourselves on being respectful on and off the pitch at all times. Well done to all players, staff and supporters of the club. ”

The visitors opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time when a cross from out on the left was headed past Westfields goalkeeper Ian Havard by summer signing Josh Gibson with the aid of a deflection.

The Unlsport Hellenic League Premier Division hosts, playing their first match on home turf, were then handed an opportunity to equalise when referee Chris Bounds awarded a 62nd minute penalty.

But the Jockeys keeper made a fine save to keep out the spot-kick. However, Westfields were not to be denied and claimed a share of the spoils with a 25-yard equaliser with 12 minutes remaining on the clock. The draw followed a 1-0 midweek win for Chepstow at home to Pill,

Fellow Ardal South-East outfit Monmouth Town were also due to make the trip to Westfields last night (Tuesday, July 19) ahead of another tough trip to Hellenic League outfit Lydney Town on Saturday.
