Monmouth Comprehensive School (MCS) student Zak Williams is celebrating his selection to become part of the Wales Schoolboys Rugby League Squad.

Zak was introduced to Rugby League at MCS and played in the successful Year 11 team, making it to the quarter finals of the Carnegie Champion Schools tournament and playing in the game which saw MCS crowned Welsh Champions.

It was from this game that he was invited to play for the South Wales Scorpions and has been a regular member of the squad since then.

Zak is captain of the MCS team, who are the current East Wales Champions, and is looking forward to their next game – a Welsh semi-final against Cwm Rhymni.

Following Zak's performance in the East Wales tournament, he was invited to the Welsh trials, being just one of 25 players selected from more than 100 hopefuls.

Zak is hoping to get into the first team squad that will take on England in April.
