THORNWELL manager Steve Bidmead declared himself "really proud" of his players after they gained three points with a home victory over second-placed promotion candidates West of St Julian.
"I was really proud of the way the team battled for the three points," Bidmead said after seeing goals by Neil Brown and Tony Reynolds clinched a 2-1 win.
Thornwell are fourth from bottom of Division 3 – seven points ahead of bottom club Trinant who have two games in hand,
Two places and four points better off, Caldicot Castle lost 6-2 at Nantyglo.
Castle boss Dave Adamson said: "We played better in the second half but by then, we were 5-0 down.
"We scored twice after the break through Richard Beach and Joe O'Brien."
This Saturday, Castle are away to Rhymney and Thornwell entertain Neuadd Wen.
