Penallt entered five teams in the Cymru Kitchens Monmouthshire Tennis League this season and are pleased that all teams have performed well. The Ladies A team finished fourth out of nine teams in the Premiership. They were only beaten by Allt yr yn A and Abergavenny A and were narrowly beaten on sets by Cwmbran A, with both teams finishing on the same number of points. The team was captained by Sue Jenkins and Lynne Morris. They along with Ginny Higgins, Nicky Hutchins, Val Simeoni, Nicky Amery, Liz Clarke and Karen Rollings were the team members. The Ladies B team captained by Sue Dean finished first out of 10 teams in the first division winning nine matches and drawing one. Playing for the team as well as Sue were Steph Howell, Lynda Thornycroft, Michele Hall, Barbara Barter and Caroline Peters. The Men's team, captained by Neil O'Doherty, ended the season fifth in the first division on 19 points. Regular players for the team were young pair Chris Widdicks and Seamus Cooper and the youngish Josh Griffiths and Sean Delahoy and also the less young Steve Shields, Walter May, Dave Guppy and Chesney Britton. The Mixed A team finished second in the first division. The regular players were Rosie and Chris Adams, Jane and Nigel Bryan, Ginny Higgins and Walter May, and Arianna and Dave Guppy. The mixed B team finished fifth in the same division. Joan and Chris Hollick, Michele and Bob Hall, and Sue and Martin Dean were the usual squad. Needless to say the highlights of the mixed season were the two highly contested home derbies when the two teams played each other.
