The Past Captains' Society met on Thursday 8th August for their annual Stableford golf competition and dinner.

The society was established back in October 2007 by Joan Morgan, a founder member of the The Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club.

The past captains present at the inaugural meeting appointed Joan their lifelong president. All past captains are automatically members regardless of their current membership status of The Rolls or any other Golf Club.

The main aim is to engender and promote camaraderie and this aim has been truly fulfilled. Not often fortunate with the weather, despite the fixture being held in August each year, the ladies enjoyed a really warm and sunny day for this year's fiercely contested golf competition.

Following the golf and the now obligatory group photograph a delicious three course dinner was served in the sunny room of the Mansion House.

During dinner there was much conversation about times past and of the trials and tribulations of the the day's golf.

During a momentary break in the chatter, Josie Bean (the organiser of this year's event), presented the trophy and prizes.

Winner of the trophy was Ruth Light with 34 points, joint second were Georgie Jarrett and Gail Jones and Dawn Cumbley was third out of a total field of 13.

Ruth first won the trophy in 2011; previous winners have been Carole Lewis (2007), Dawn Cumbley (2008), Gill Drayton (2009), Sylvia Curphey (2010) and Sue James (2012).

Jan Lyon, ladies' captain for 2013, accepted the invitation to participate in the day's events and is looking forward to next year when she can compete in the golf and be in the photograph.
