On Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th February, Monmouth School rowers Daniel Waters and William England competed in the GB junior rowing trials held in Boston, Lincolnshire.

The boys are looking to progress to the Under 18 GB squad after being selected at under 16 level last year.

The trials consisted of a 5km row on both Saturday and Sunday against the clock and against 45 other top pairs selected from around the UK.

With some boys returning to the squad who represented GB last year, the competition was tough. However, Dan and Will were not fazed by any means having trained hard all season.

Saturday's row placed them ninth overall and an excellent performance again placed them 10th overall, with only 0.4 seconds separating sixth to 10th place on Sunday.

Still a long way to go until final selection for Great Britain in July, but Dan and Will are striving to improve and they are waiting to see if they secure an invitation to the next set of assessments in April.
