Chepstow's Mabey Bridge has sponsored Mathern FC for the 2014/15 season with a donation for the second team's matchday kit.

Mabey Bridge has particularly strong ties with Mathern FC and currently has six employees playing for the club, as well several managers who have played for the club previously.

Wayne Duffield, secretary of Mathern FC, said: "We're a small club and we've entered two leagues this year, with three teams playing for the first time.

"This means we have additional costs, so financial support from the local business community is always appreciated.

"We'll be using the Mabey Bridge sponsored kit for all our second team games this season. We've had a good start so far, but also a few teething problems rounding up numbers for the teams. We are grateful for all support we can get and thank Mabey Bridge for the shirt sponsorship."

The sponsorship agreement sees the Mabey Bridge logo on the kit, as well as support for the club's website and an advert within matchday programmes.

Daniel Tyler, an 'advanced modern apprentice' at Mabey Bridge who plays for the club, said: "This generous donation will be a great help and will contribute to the progression and development of our club."

Mathern FC has teams in the Gwent County League Division 2; the East Gwent Senior League Division 1; and East Gwent Senior League Division 1.

The club was formed after Mathern Wanderers FC and a number of players from Tintern Abbey FC amalgamated at the end of the 2011-12 season. The following season, the first team won the East Gwent Senior League Division 1, and the second team – which plays in Division 2 – won the Fishwick Cup.
