MONMOUTH Town's crunch match with Penybont in the second round of the Welsh Cup didn't survive the weekend wash out but is set to take place this Saturday (15th November) at 2pm hoping for better weather.
The Kingfishers who reached the last sixteen of the tournament last season before crashing out after being forced to play away following a twice postponed game against Porthmadoc, will be hoping history doesn't repeat itself and Saturday's game goes ahead.
Monmouth Town will be near full strength as injuries heal, although Ashley Ford will miss the game as he serves a three match ban for his ending off against Goytre United.
Andrew Smith is confident that his team can get the win they need to move into the third round although he insists it will be tough. He said: "I know their gaffer Franny Ford very well and he'll have the same mindset as me, he won't let any player not put a shift in regardless of their ability.
"They have started the season well and seem to progressing nicely both on and off the pitch as they prepare to play at the highest level in Wales. The winners today may just be able to do that as the Welsh Premier league sides join the competition in the next round.
"We have made no secret of our aspirations to play at that level and we'll do everything possible to make sure we are in the hat and, hopefully, draw a big side here at Pen-y-pound".
