MONMOUTH Town crashed to another league defeat at Cardiff Met's new 3G ground and lost
further ground in their title defence season.
The students, fresh from a stunning 4–1 Welsh Cup win over 2013 winners Prestatyn, and in contrast to the
Kingfishers frustrating defeat at Connah's Quay, were the quicker out of the blocks and zipped the ball around a surface with which they were very familiar.
Monmouth showed their attacking threat when they did manage to retain possession for any periods with Ham and MacDonald going close. But the students looked the more likely to score and hit a post before finally taking the lead on 38 minutes when a good save from Blackburn was inexplicably cleared back into the danger area and Baker swallowed up the chance.
Town were dealt a further blow from the kick off when veteran Sam Palmer was caught in an innocuous looking challenge and was replaced by Joe
Loftus.
Town came out a little more compact in the second half and, in Dan
MacDonald, once more had the most dangerous looking attacker and as a number of chances went begging.
MacDonald showed his class superbly converting a cross from Ham for the equaliser. A Harrhy header minutes later after neat work by Ham should have seen the Kingfishers take the lead but somehow it passed wide of the upright.
From then the pressure built and Town rightly tried to turn the students defence but their own defence couldn't hold on and Roscoe converted a rebound after another fine stop from Blackburn. As Town pushed for another equaliser they were caught on the break and, as Roscoe claimed his second, Town retuned form the capital empty handed.
