THERE was derby day delight for Chepstow Town at home on Saturday, as the Jockeys triumphed 2-1 over near neighbours Caldicot to go third in the Ardal South-East League.

Fellow local rivals Undy’s 3-2 loss at Goytre the previous evening paved the way for Chepstow to leapfrog them at the final whistle at Larkfield Road.

Josh Parsons opened the scoring for the Larkfield Park hosts on 13 minutes, firing home after a brilliant mazy run through the Caldicot rearguard.

And Josh Gibson doubled the lead 11 minutes into the second half, quickest to react to poke home from two yards in a goalmouth scramble.

Laurent Ngunjoh scored with two minutes of normal time to play, but Chepstow held on to win the derby – making it a double celebration after being presented with the September Ardal South club of the month award.

The club posted: “Positive energy, fought for each other and performed at a high intensity throughout.

“An excellent team effort to pick up a huge three points.”

Both clubs’ second teams lost out though in the FAW Cymru South East Reserves League, Chepstow losing 3-0 at high-flying Risca United to sit fourth from bottom, and mid-table Caldicot squeezed out 3-2 at RTB Ebbw Vale.
