A duo of Monmouth Tri Club members battled through the scorching weekend conditions to triumph in their debut half IRONMAN distance event. Katie Peters and Dan Beard flew through the IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea in 07.16.08 and 07.51.56 respectively, taking on a 1.9km swim in the Prince of Wales Dock, a 90km bike ride through the Gower and 21.1km run from the marina to Mumbles and back.

This year’s event was sold out, as athletes from around the world signed up. The Welsh race continues as one the of most popular events in the European IRONMAN 70.3 series, with Swansea Council estimating the event created a 4.36 million boost for the local economy. UK athletes Harry Palmer won the men’s race for a second year, while Lizzie Rayner claimed first in the women’s event.

A day earlier, Sharon Neville, Andrew Washbrook and Kelly Major were challenged with similar tropical weather at the 2026 Upton Tri. Taking on the standard distance, the trio enjoyed a 1500m swim in the River Severn, a 42km cycle through the Worcestershire countryside and a 10km run through field and farm track. Andrew came home first at 02.46.37, followed by Sharon with 02.59.55 and Kelly in 03.04.33.
