MONMOUTH Town's U14s have been riding high in the East Gwent league after a series of impressive wins, and their form continued in the 2nd round of the Gwent

County Cup with another impressive 8-2 victory over Tredegar.

The team had a bye in the first round and goals from Sean Swann Mcbride (4), Jordan Suttie (2), Greg Powell and Ben Jones, ensured the team went into the hat for the quarter final draw.

In the league fixtures last weekend two of the best U12 teams in the East Gwent League met to fight for their place at the top of table.

First placed Monmouth Town took on Albion, who started the day in third, in a battle for Monmouth bragging rights. Before kick-off both teams remembered the Christmas truce of the First World War, which was fitting as the pitch resembled the Somme in places.

Monmouth Town got off to a

better start, looked sharper overall and soon found themselves two goals up. Both teams struggled to play a passing game on the heavy pitch, the first half ending 0-2.

Albion started the second half full of belief after their team talk and it wasn't long before they pulled one back through Lewis Lloyd. Town then went 1-3 up with a great team goal. Albion were not finished and battled hard in midfield with Emyr Pullen making a string of fine saves for the Town team.

Lewis Lloyd was not to be denied though and scored another two long range goals to complete a superb hat-trick. Both teams were happy with a 3-3 result at full time. And with honours even both held their places in the table.

The Town's U16s also had a good weekend with a hard fought 5-2 victory over Mardy. Cameron Williams bagged four goals with Josh Jones also netting a goal.

The football club's U18s were the only team not to get a win in last weekend's fixtures, going down 5-3 to Caerleon, Alex Cleaves, with two goals, and Callum Wheatley were on target, but could not over turn a team above them in the league.
