MONMOUTH under 9's made history on Sunday, despite a defeat away to Wormelow.

Lauren Maguire became the first girl to captain the club in a competitive match when she led the side into the field.

Lauren's captaincy skills drew praise from the home club as Monmouth restricted their opponents to 309. Patrick Stubbs and William Tatham bowled very well, with the returning Catrin Watkin (1-28) showing signs of getting back to her best form.

Highlights included a spectacular caught-and-bowled from Boris Hale and another wicket for five year old JP Tatham. Cameron Harris fully deserved his wicket (1-10) while Bella Wilton and Megan Maguire showed great determination in the field.

Monmouth set out positively in reply, with Stubbs and William Wilton again on the attack. For the second week, wickets tumbled at regular intervals and Monmouth were never seriously in the hunt.

A good partnership between Hale and Watkin took the away side to a respectable total.
